Chambar - Belgian Food in Vancouver

Posted by Bernhard Finkbeiner • Thursday, January 7. 2010 • Category: Dine Out
As a German, the first time I heard about the Chambar restaurant in Vancouver, I thought "Belgian food? I have no idea what the Belgian cuisine is famous for". Well, first thing I learned: Beer (living in Germany somehow keeps you from trying lots of foreign beers. I wonder why that is...). Second: Belgian cuisine seems to be similar to the French. At least Chambar has a half French, half English menu...

Chambar, Vancouver
Let's get to the facts. Chambar Restaurant's prices are what you would expect from a fine-dining restaurant: Appetizers are around $16, main courses between $22 and $30, desserts around $11. And it's worth it!

The food is excellent, the ambiance is nice, the staff is friendly. The food often has a little hot / spicy flavor to it. So if you don't like spicy / hot, let the waiters know beforehand! Try one of the Belgian beers, it's awesome and have some mussels. I didn't have them that night but it smelled so good at the neighbor's table I wished I had them (though my meal was excellent, too). My absolute favorite was the dessert. The pastry chef does a MAGNIFICENT job. The self-made ice creams that go with lots of the pastries are just stunning!

In short: try it! Chambar is located on 562 Beatty Street in Vancouver.
